What Do Photos Mean to You?
My Disease
I spend all day working with photos, because I sell custom photo designs and templates. So photos mean quite a lot to my business, but on a personal level they have become even more important as my health declines. I suffer from fibromyalgia, which causes widespread pain throughout my body, greatly limiting my ability to travel and be active. I actually had not worked for close to ten years until I started my business in late March of this year. It was right after my nephew’s first birthday that I decided that I wanted to stop letting my disease rule my life or at least try.
My Motivation
Meanwhile, my sister and sweet nephew are about 3 and a half hours away, and I can only visit a few times a year because traveling causes me quite a bit of pain and it takes time for me to recover. But with the power of photos and video phone calls I still get to see him quite often. I even was on a video call with him when he took his first step. That was pretty amazing. I totally cried! My sister sends me photos almost daily, and I love to create photo collages of them, highlighting his rapid growth.
My Joy
For my nephew’s first birthday, I created a photo book for my sister through Mixbook, capturing the first year of his life. This brought me so much joy and made me realize that photo design was something I was good at. Plus, it was something I could do, despite my disease.

My Business
My nephew’s birthday was March 3rd, I started offering custom photo designs services at the end of the month, then opened an Etsy shop with templates in April, and I joined a low cost, high value coaching program called Do it with Faith (affiliate link) shortly after for only $9 a month. Faith encouraged me to start my own shop on my own website and start an email newsletter. While my business is still very new, she offers excellent guidance on paths to success, and I truly believe, with time, my business will thrive.
