Self Discovery through Living in a Small Town
by Rachel | Rural Meanings
This photo represents my journey in self discovery through moving to a small town. The images represent both the rural Albertan landscape and a few of the many crafts and creations I made in the journey to discovering printables and creating Rural Meanings.
I grew up in a city and moved to a small town in my early adulthood. In moving to a small town I started discovering myself and my interests in different crafts, which lead to creating Rural Meanings.
The Journey through Crafting
I’ve always loved crafting but moving to a small town led to undergoing a journey of self discovery with different creations and crafts! It started with planning my wedding and creating tablescapes and then became pryography (wood burning). And then I was gifted a cutting machine (and purchased an additional one) and started creating a variety of different paper & vinyl crafts and custom mugs!
Then I became interested in selling my creations and really enjoyed listening to business podcasts and attending summits. But the cost of shipping, my location, and the time required to create something held me back from creating a craft business. Then I attended a summit that led to Rural Meanings as I was introduced to printables.
Multi-Passionate Biz
My business began with creating goal planners. Then I joined a membership that challenged me to create other types of printables. But I wanted all of my products to connect. So, when the first challenge was to create greeting cards I created greeting cards with a matching planner. Then when another challenge was to create colouring pages I created greeting cards that you could colour. Then I discovered collections which lead to the Camping, Summer Cabin, Fall Road Trip, and Winter Lodge Collections which include planners, colouring greeting cards, wall art, and activity books.
But it didn’t stop there. I struggled with visibility and frustration with SEO & social media, when I finally found a different solution, I wanted to share it with everyone. So, through my perspective and experiences I started creating workbooks, spreadsheets, and courses for other small business owners.
With the goal planners, collections, and business resources my business has been created to be multi-passionate, which has been a reflection of myself.

Prioritization Goals
After my journey through crafting and self discovery, I am now working towards prioritizing. Although I love DIY the day only has limited hours and this last year has flown by. So I want to work towards prioritizing in my business with what I love to do, what has been helping to move my business forward, and how I want my business to be.
